Project Anchor is a Partial Care Day Program that provides services to clients with a chronic mental illness. Throughout the day our clients attend structured groups designed to meet their individual needs. Groups range from Psycho-education about Mental Illness and Symptom and Illness Management, Copings Skills, Wellness in Recovery, Parenting, and Skills Training to Yoga, Crocheting, and Music Expression.

Our Bayside Children’s Partial Care Program has utilized a generous United Way grant to develop and implement a homework drop-in center for clients to utilize before program hours. The grant has afforded the Bayside Program with the opportunity to provide clients with educational resources which may otherwise be unavailable to them. In March OceanMHS was awarded a grant of $1M from the New Jersey Division of Mental Health Services. The grant, for the Ocean County Early Intervention Support Services (Ocean-EISS) program, is to provide “rapid access to short-term, recovery-oriented crisis intervention and stabilization services for persons with serious mental illness”.

Project Recovery Evening Program, Ocean Mental Health Services’ (OceanMHS) program for people with both a mental illness and substance abuse problem, has new hours to better accommodate people who have daytime commitments. The program now begins at 5:30 pm and runs through 8:45 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Enrolled clients are always welcome to join their peers for a light dinner at 5:00 pm on program nights.

Mary Lough-Normile, LCSW recently joined the Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) team as program supervisor. Mary brings with her over 20 years of experience in the field of social work. At OceanMHS, IFSS is here to provide support and services to family and caregivers. Each year we work with sixty families of people with serious mental illness. Being a caregiver is one of the most important roles in our society. We depend on caregivers in all aspects of life. When someone is a caregiver to a person with a serious mental illness, IFSS is there to provide support. IFSS works with family members to address these concerns and increase the effectiveness of care giving.
